How to help prevent your load from sticking in the winter
TOP 3 WAYS TO PREVENT YOUR LOAD FROM STICKING IN THE WINTER
Winter is here, and the team at Summit wants to make sure you know your options for a successful and profitable winter. Rex Higdon, Summit’s Edmonton service manager, explains some options to reduce product sticking in your truck or trailer box.
Loads tend to stick to the front corners of the unit, making it top heavy which can cause it to pull itself over, not only causing damage to the unit but to the people and property around the incident. Today we are going to talk about three options for your trailers and explain how they will prevent your load from sticking in the winter.
1. Calcium Spray Tank
The first option is to install a calcium spray tank. These tanks are mounted on the front of your unit s with the choice of a 15 or 20-foot hose. These systems allow the operator to climb up and spray a consistent coat of calcium on the boxes walls and floor. Coating the box with calcium will aid in preventing the product from freezing to the walls and floor.
2. Front Wall Curtain
Another option to prevent your load from sticking is by installing a Summit designed front wall curtain. The curtain is made out of a reinforced rubberized material, and is bolted to the front wall, preventing the product from freezing to the steel. The curtain flexes and the product releases as you lift your box. The malleable design of the curtain allows any frozen or dried on products to be cracked off as the curtain bends in the unloading process.
3. Box Liners
There are two brands of liners that Summit carries, Quicksilver and the standard UHMW liner. The UHMW liner has a lower content of silicone or Teflon in it and is an economical way to get a liner installed in you gravel box. The Quicksilver liner would be a more slippery liner as it contains 6% silicone and Teflon content, making it more slippery than any other liner on the market. Remember that cold will transfer through the liner which can cause a frosting effect, even on a liner. With more use and as the liner warms up, the liner will have less sticking issues.
Unfortunately, no matter what product or combination of products you use, there is nothing that is 100% proven to prevent sticking. The good news is that there are many ways s to minimize it. With the cold temperatures in Alberta, it’s hard to get away from freezing temperatures, but Summit Trailer is here to keep innovating products to fit your needs.
